Coach Paul Devine's unbeaten and untied Covington Buccaneers wound up the 1952 football season in grand style Friday night at Smith Field in Covington by grinding out a 19-0 triumph over a highly-touted Brookville team.

The Bradford Railroaders knew they were in trouble before they even stepped on the gridiron to face coach Paul Devine's unbeaten Covington Buccaneers Friday night. After all, the Railroaders have never defeated a Covington team in five previous attempts. In those five meetings the Covington teams have totaled 147 points to the Railroaders' 37, with the closest margin of victory being last season when the Buccaneers won 31-12.

Coach Paul Devine's Covington Buccaneers chalked up their seventh consecutive victory of the year Friday night at Tipp City where they humbled the Red Devilds 33-7 in a game marked by numerous fumbles, penalties and injuries, and at times slowed to snail's pace by confused officials.

Although the fans have all gone home, Smith Field still rings with the echoes of Friday night's roaring crowd, one of the largest ever assembled at the Covington gridiron, that watched coach Paul Devine's Buccaneers hand the Class A West Milton Bulldogs a 44-0 pasting that will live long in the memories of local fans.

Facing their toughest test of the year at Versailles Friday night, Covington's battling Buccaneers gallantly rose to the occasion and overpowered the stubborn Tigers, 13-0. This victory guaranteed at least a share of the Tri-County League title and a victory over Bradford, their only remaining league opponent, would sew up the championship for Covington for the second successive season.

The Covington Buccaneers coasted to their fourth consecutive victory of the season Friday night at Smith Field where they annihilated a small and inexperienced Ansonia team 45-13 in a Tri-County League game.

The Covington Buccaneers continued their winning ways at Minster Friday night by defeating a determined but overpowered Minster squad, 26-6.

Despite Thursday night’s downpour of rain, Covington’s Smith Field was in excellent condition Friday night as Coach Paul Devine’s Covington Buccaneers outclassed a hapless Piqua Catholic eleven 32-0 in a Tri-County League game witnessed by some 2,000 fans.

The Covington Buccaneers, defending Tri-County League champions, opened the 1952 football season with a flurry of touchdowns as the Buccs walloped Maria Stein, 58-6 Friday night on the loser's home lot.
