The Buccs, under the direction of Coach Bob Wion and Assistant Coach Blair Irvin, turned in a fine season, in this, their last year of independent ball. Next fall they plan to enter the “Little Buckey League”. During the past season the Buccs played two games from this league, defeated one, Centerville, 13-12, and losing to Brookville, 19-27.

Among other accomplishments this year, the Buccaneers won the new traveling trophy presented by American Legion to the winner of the Covington-Bradford game. It is planned that the team winning most times in a five-year period will receive this trophy permanently.

Other honors presented by the American legion were won by Howard Anderson, back of the year, and Jim Minnich, lineman of the year.

Seniors playing their last season for the Buccaneers this year include Jim Minnich, Jim Owen, and Trafford Ringelspaugh at tackle; Bud Feeser and Bud Helman at guard; John rench at center; Howard Anderson, quarterback; Bill Knick, fullback; and Don Bemus playing halfback.

Covington’s five wins came over Enon 12-6, Piqua Catholic 25-12, Centerville 13-12, Versailles 24-7, and Bradford 20-0.
