EATON – The Covington Buccaneers traveled to Eaton High School on Thursday to compete in seven-on-seven scrimmages against Tri-Village, Union City and the host Eaton Eagles.
There were some spots that were at a high level and about the same amount at a low for the Buccaneers against all three teams. These circumstances give the program areas to focus on improvement within execution and overall effort.
The highlights for Covington were some outstanding passes and catches in tough situations and on defense the Buccaneers recorded four interceptions. The low situations were mistakes committed, which fortunately can be corrected once the team reviews the films.
Scoring wise, the Buccaneers went 1 to 2 against Eaton, 2 to 4 against Tri-Village and 2 to 1 against Union City, but the overall touchdowns scored and surrendered don’t reflect the overall performance due to the rotation of players in and out of the field throughout the day. Plus, each possession consisted of 10 plays regardless of turnovers that were committed by either team.
Obviously, the Buccaneers have shown improvement over the past year, but there are so many areas where the team needs to advance to the next level in order to put forth a successful season. Due to the amount of time and hard work the majority of the players have put in throughout the off-season and the fact that they are continuing to work hard, the Buccaneers are in the right path for success.
The next passing scrimmage is scheduled for July 17th at Tri-Village at 10:00am.
