SASKATCHEWAN – 2014 Covington graduate A.J. Ouellette is adding to his legacy in the CFL by helping Saskatchewan to a 19-9 victory over Winnipeg to improve its record to 5-1 on the season.

In the game, A.J. tallied 88 rushing yards on 17 carries for an average of 5.2 yards-per-carry, which was extremely impressive considering how many times he was forced to rack up yards after contact in the backfield.

Ouellette now is second in total yards in the CFL with 389 rushing yards on 96 carries with an average of 4.1 yards-per-carry in a league that is heavily focused on the passing game.

A.J. put forth some huge plays in critical situations, one on a 17-yard run that put the Roughriders in position to score a touchdown and then an 11-yard run that led to a 16-6 lead on a field goal.

The rushing yardage wasn’t the only impact Ouellette had in the game as his ability to protect his quarterback with critical blocks to allow ideal timing for successful passes on huge plays that led to critical scoring opportunities in a game that was controlled by the defensive performance of both teams.

Plus, Ouellette was used as a decoy several times in the passing game as he ran several routes down the seem that forced Winnipeg’s defense to cover him, which opened huge gaps in the middle of the field for big plays that kept several possessions alive.

With a 5-1 record, Saskatchewan is tied with British Columbia and Montreal in the CFL.
