A.J. OUELLETTE WINS SECOND GREY CUP CHAMPIONSHIP

WINNI[PEG, CANADA – 2014 Covington graduate A.J. Ouellette captured the second Grey Cup Championship in a 25-17 victory over Montreal on Sunday in Winnipeg, Canada.

In the championship game, A.J. rushed for 83 yards on 17 carries and caught one pass for 32 yards to tally 115 yards of offense, the most yards accumulated by all players in the Grey Cup Championship. He also scored once on a touchdown run from four yards out to put the Roughriders in a great position to win the championship.

A.J. is a team-first guy and his comments after the game represents his mentality.

“Oh man, I’m just celebrating with these guys (teammates),” Ouellette said.. “Everyone on our team worked so hard and our coaches worked so hard this week and I’m so proud of them.”

The season was a great success for Saskatchewan and the final result was accomplished by the overall commitment implemented by the entire team that started things off in the beginning of the season.

“The bill of trust that started in the training camp, and this was our goal,” Ouellette explained as to what led to a Grey Cup Championship. “We knew we were going to achieve this (Grey Cup Championship) and we were not going to come up short. We had guys who came in each and every day to work and I wanted to prove to the coaching staff right and the teammates right to get back this year and how we could bring it. The championship, more clear and family focus. I love these brothers – and yeah, I’m proud.”

To close out the 2025 season, A.J. Ouellette had rushed for 1418 yards on 282 carries for 5 yards per carries and scored 10 touchdowns throughout the season.

The championship game didn’t start out well for Saskatchewan as Montreal held a 7-1 lead at the end of the first quarter, Fortunately, the Roughriders scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 15-7 lead at the break and much of it was due to the success in the run game.

Saskatchewan then built a 25-7 lead midway through the third quarter and Montreal was able to close the gap to 25-14 in the final minutes before the fourth period. The Alouetttes then converted a field goal in the fourth quarter to close the gap to 25-17, but the Roughriders were able to hold on the preserve the championship victory due to outstanding defense.

Offensively, A.J. Ouellette’s close friend Trevor Harris, the Roughrider’s quarterback, was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the game. Regardless, A.J. Ouellette showcased how great he is as a running back due to his rushing yards, receiving yards and his outstanding blocking to protect his brother, quarterback Trevor Harris.

It’s obvious, A.J. Ouellette was a key player to lead the Roughriders to the Grey Cup Championship.
