A.J. OUELLETTE SPARKS ROUGHRIDERS TO THE GREY CUP

SASKATCHEWAN – The Saskatchewan Roughriders captured a thrilling 24-21 victory over the BC Lions in the Western Final to advance to the Grey Cup Championship and a key to the victory was the performance of A.J. Ouellette, a Covington Buccaneer legend.

Saskatchewan will play Montreal in the Grey Cup Championship on Sunday, November 16th at 6:00pm EST in Winnipeg.

Throughout the victory over British Columbia,. A.J. Ouellette accumulated 113 rushing yards on 17 carries and also had two receptions for 13 yards. His total of 126 yards in the game was the most tallied by any of the players on both teams throughout the game.

The Roughriders struggled offensively in the first half as the BC Lions led 7-4 at the half. Fortunately, Saskatchewan was able to take a 14-7 lead at the end of the third period due to a dominating quarter, But the Lions responded by scoring 14 unanswered points in the majority of the fourth quarter to put the Roughriders into a tough situation by trailing 21-14.

The Roughriders were able to get the ball back at their own 34 with just over 1:03 left in the game without a timeout. Saskatchewan was able to execute perfectly on six consecutive plays to put the team in a potential scoring situation inside the five.

The big play that kept the Roughriders alive in the critical drive was a catch made that was short of a first down with two defensive players in position to end the threat, but A.J. Ouellette was able to push the receiver beyond the first down yardline to keep the drive alive.

Ouellette then caught a 10-yard reception and two plays later the Roughriders were able to score the game-winning touchdown on a three-yard pass to take the 24-21 lead with 12 seconds left.

That was all the Roughriders needed to secure the victory and improve the season record to 13-6.

A.J. Ouellette has 1335 rushing yards on the season with 265 carries, an average of 5.0 yards-per-carry.

Now A.J. Ouellette has an opportunity to win the second Grey Cup Championship in his career.
