SASKATCHEWAN – A.J. Ouellette, a legendary Covington High School athlete, is compiling an amazing professional football career in his sixth season as a key running back in the CFL (Canadian Football League).

In his first two seasons at Toronto in 2019 and 2021 (the 2020 season was cancelled due to Covid-19), A.J. had limited opportunities to display his amazing talent, but in 2022 he received an opportunity to showcase how extremely good he is as a running back due to an injury of his current close friend, Andrew Harris. That season he made a huge impact on the team success for Toronto and helped lead the Argonauts to winning the Grey Cup Championship. In the Grey Cup Championship game against Winnipeg, A.J. scored the only two touchdowns for the Argonauts.

A.J. was the key running back for Toronto in 2023 as he accumulated 1009 rushing yards in 15 games, but after the season ended he was left as a free-agent. Fortunately, A.J. joined Saskatchewan in 2024 because he had a very close relationship with Corey Mace, an assistant coach he bonded with in Toronto who was hired as the head coach for the Roughriders.

In his first season as the running back in Saskatchewan, A.J. suffered an unfortunate hip injury that set him back several games. Still, he was able to return later in the season and helped the Roughriders advance to the post-season tournament, which ended one game short of reaching the Grey Cup Championship.

Now, in his second season with Corey Mace and the Saskatchewan Roughriders, A.J. Ouellette is proving why he is one of the premier running backs in the CFL as he helped his team close out the best regular season record in the league, 12-6. Granted, A.J. didn’t play much in the final two games of the regular season because the Roughriders secured the top spot in the West Division due to a 12-4 record at that point.

Throughout the regular season A.J. accumulate 1222 rushing yards in a professional CFL league that is primarily focused in the passing game due to three plays required to capture a first down instead of four plays required in United States football. Ouellette also had a huge impact in the passing game due to outstanding blocking to protect the quarterback and his 250 receiving yards, with 216 yards after catches on 35 receptions. A.J. scored nine touchdowns as well.

In his second season as a Saskatchewan football player, Ouellette and the Roughriders are now in the second round of the Grey Cup Playoffs where they host the BC Lions on Saturday, November 8th at 6:30pm EST. The game can be watched on the internet at https://www.cfl.ca.
