CEDARVILLE – Every time the Buccs are faced with an opponent that is predicted to give them a stiff test they respond in grand fashion. Cedarville was no exception.
The Buccs started slow as they failed to move the ball with ease as they had done on previous opponents. To make matters worse, they lost leading rusher, Josh Burelison in the process.
With Burelison out, Mike Cope and the offensive line took over the game.
The Buccs’ line opened huge holes for Cope & Co. as Cope broke open a scoreless game with a 69-yard touchdown run in the first.
The Buccs’ coaching staff then mixed things up a bit by going to the air. Dusty Blythe hit Jordan Shafer for 15 yards for the Buccs’ second touchdown which resulted in a 13-0 halftime lead.
As the Buccs defense continued to dominate, Boomer Schmidt and Dusty Blythe put the game away. Blythe hit Boomer out of the backfield for a 21-yard touchdown to give the Buccs the lead 19-0.
Senior, Dan Burgess then closed out the scoring in the fourth with a 3-yard run on a sweep to the left side of the Indian’s defense.
On the night Mike Cope rushed for 124 yards on 21 carries and Boomer Schmidt added 103 yards on 11 carries.
Jordan Shafer grabbed 8 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown.
With the win the Buccs improve to 9-0 and qualify for the state playoffs regardless of the outcome of next week’s game against Bradford.
