2000: BUCCS DESTROY UNBEATEN PANTHERS

  • Post category:2000 SEASON
Alex Hague #88 and Boomer Schmidt #42 enjoy a 54-0 route of Tri-County North.

TRI-COUNTY NORTH – Two unbeaten teams and with league championship implications on the line. Sounds like a dog fight, doesn’t it?

It sure didn’t turn out that way.

Behind 362 yards rushing from the Buccs’ offense, the Buccs totally dominated Tri-County North 54-0 on North’s home field.

Sophomore sensation Boomer Schmidt started the Buccs off early as he hauled in a 25 yards pass from Dusty Blythe to give the Buccs a 7-0 lead.

Mike Cope and Josh Burelison then took over and increased the Buccs’ lead to 28-0 by the end of the first quarter. Cope scored on a 22-yard run and Burelison scored on runs of 1 and 31 yards in the quarter.

Schmidt then put the game out of reach before halftime on a 10-yard run to make the score 34-0.

The second half was all Mike Cope.

Cope broke loose twice for runs of 57 yards and 30 yards to increase the Buccs lead to 47-0 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth, with the game well in hand, Coach Peacock let the reserves see some action.

Sophomore Mutt Reck scored the final touchdown for the Buccs on a 2-yard burst up the middle.

On the game Josh Burelison and Mike Cope racked up over 100 yards each.

The Buccaneer defense held North to a total of 105 yards offense in the shutout.

The win sets the stage for another battle of unbeaten teams next week as the Buccs host the 3-0 Bethel Bees next Friday.

The winner of that game will have a leg up on the CCC title race with less than half of the season in the books.
