A SPECIAL MIDNIGHT HIT IS COMING

  • Post category:2024 SEASON

COVINGTON – The 18th annual Midnight Hit is taking place on August 1st and Covington coach Austin Morgan is adding additional events to involve the entire Covington Community.

“We are really excited for it, so Midnight Hit is on August the first, the first night we can have full contact pads,” Morgan explained. “So this one we are trying to make it more of a big deal to get more fans and kids out there. Our actual practice starts around 10:30pm, but we are going to invite all kids and the community around 9:00 so the kids can do some combine stuff and other fun things for the kids – some punt, pass and kick stuff for the kids, along with the NFL combine drills. We are going to have concession stands rolling, selling some t-shirts for the Midnight Hit and the cheerleaders are going to be out there helping run some stuff. So, it is going to be some major stuff going on where anybody can come out, hang out, and have a festival of football.”

The NFL combine type of activities are available for any Covington kids – boys and girls – in grades 3rd through 12th who want to participate for free. All of those who want to participate should show up at Smith Field at 8:30pm on August 1st so they can get signed in on the participation list.

“Any kid can come out and participate (in the combine),” Morgan confirmed. “We are going to have a handful of things to where if you are a smaller kid who is fast or a bigger kid who is likely strong, there will be stuff for everybody to do. We will keep track of scores for winners and whoever can be the best combine winners.”

The winners will be rewarded for their success from the combine events in front of the hometown fans who will be on hand to witness a great evening.

Plus, Coach Morgan is offering all community supporters to join the varsity football team in the weight room for the Skull Session at 10:30pm, which would happen shortly after the end of the combine the kids participate in.

“In the Skull Session we go over our core values and some of our culture and mission stuff,” Morgan explained. “We are going to invite the entire community to come to it, which is in the weight room located behind the school, behind the wrestling building. Hopefully we can pack that weight room up by getting everyone in there – family, friends, adults, aunts, uncles, students – anybody can come to it.”

After the Skull Session, the Buccaneer football team will head out onto Smith Field for the traditional Midnight Hit with a practice in full pads and full contact for the first time.

This entire evening of the Midnight Hit will hopefully generate Bucc Unity.
