COVINGTON – The Buccaneer roster is putting on outstanding effort, hard work and enthusiasm to set the entire team up for success in the 2026 season.

The hard work committed by the majority of the team began after the 2025 season ended as so many of the players put in so much time in the weight room for athletic training conducted by head coach Austin Morgan and his staff members.

“This was a phenomenal off-season,” explained Coach Morgan. “We had a great turnout. We had pretty much every kid show up throughout the off-season and we had a lot of kids show up every single day.”

Throughout the off-season, Coach Morgan and his staff put the kids into ideal time for athletic training so it never conflicted their practice schedules in other important sports. They participated in. Plus, the athletic training opportunities the kids took advantage of benefited them to progress in each one of their sports.

“It has been cool to watch all of the work that happened,” continued Coach Morgan on his explanation. “Six months is a long time to grind and our kids just stayed at it and attacked it each day in the intensity and their mindset to get after it. Six months of work you can tell in their bodies and the closeness by the kids. You can tell the kids who have been here a lot have taking ownership of the guys around them.”

The key to the future success of the program is how much of an impact the tainted and experienced seniors have in helping the younger players progress. So far the seniors are providing the leadership that is needed due to their outstanding commitment to the program.

“A lot of it is lead by example and our senior class has been awesome this off-season,” Morgan said. “Almost all the kids showed up darn near every day and it’s one of those things that when your leaders are there every day working your tails off, why aren’t you your kind of thing? So, them setting that example was huge.”

Now in the beginning part of the summer, all of the team players are bonded together through training and practices in preparation for the upcoming season. This leads to more focus on the mission of the program.

“Our mission in the program is to maximize and what that means for us is to choose excellence over success,” said Morgan. “Meaning the excellence being the process, how you do things of each play is a life of its own, each rep is a live of its own, each day has a life of its own. And just focus on those of each repo, each period, each day, and just get better each day.”

The upcoming season will seem to begin very soon and fortunately the Buccaneers are putting in the hard work needed to put themselves into potential for a great season.
