BLOWING OFF SOME STEAM...
After a summer of hard work and preparation, the Covington Buccaneers finally had the opportunity to hit somebody during the tenth annual Midnight Hit.

AUGUST 6, 2016 - COVINGTON
It was the tenth annual Midnight Hit at Covington’s Smith Field on Friday, which extending into Saturday morning until 1:00pm as the traditional countdown to midnight where two chosen seniors go head-to-head for the first official hit of the season.

And this season the two combatants were seniors Lance Miller and Carl Lankford who battled each other as the clock struck midnight - a dual that set the tone for the entire evening of physical football by the entire Buccaneer squad. From there each player received an opportunity to go head-to-head with a teammate as fans surrounded the action on the field.

After the kids got to blow off some steam by hitting each other, the real football began with a short full contact scrimmage - which was the first chance for Buccaneer fans to get a taste of the new offense and defense implemented by new coach Ty Cates.

Offensively, the fans were treated to a balanced attack - a mixture of the power running game of years past and an aerial attack consisting of multiple weapons. Defensively, the scheme is different, but the tradition of flying to the football hasn't wavered one bit.

And yes, there were plenty of mistakes made throughout the night, which is expected considering it was officially the first full contact practice of the season. The Buccaneers have just three weeks to correct those mistakes, but tonight it was about showcasing a summer’s worth of hard work to the Buccaneer faithful under the lights and having fun doing it.

Next the Buccaneers get to go head-to-head with a team in a different color jersey for a change - and that is against Milton-Union at home on Monday.
